Symptoms may develop suddenly or gradually, and may affect both eyes, or only one. Causes include infections, autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, or injury to the eye. Treatment depends on the cause where this can be established, but typically includes steroids administered as drops, injections or tablets, depending on the type of uveitis. Most cases respond to treatment, but complications may include permanent deterioration of vision, glaucoma, cataract, retinal damage and macular swelling. !
